Site Upgrade in Progress —
We are currently upgrading organicchemistrydata.org to meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
This process involves significant reworking of over 2,500 pages across multiple collections.
While we are working to ensure a smooth transition, some resources may be temporarily affected.

A Structural Puzzle based on Spectroscopic & Chemical Data
Two isomeric C8H10 hydrocarbons (A
& B) both give the same saturated hydrocarbon product,
C, on exhaustive catalytic hydrogenation. Both A & B, but
not C, show strong absorption of UV light, λmax = 245 nm.
Addition of one equivalent of HBr to either A or B produces
the same mixture of C8H11Br isomers (D
& E).
